This happy little tree looks pretty psyched about the snow.... I couldn't agree more!
We saw this along the Twin Creeks Trail in Gatlinburg.
It is a rare treat for us to be able to hike and enjoy falling snow at the same time. So far this winter season we've had that privilege twice. Still, I hope for a few more repeats :-)

Love is in the air
I'm starting to feel all Valentine-y, with fair enough reason - our wedding anniversary is just before VDay! The mushy love has translated into my work and I've been inspired to make a handful of heart-y items for my Etsy shops lately.
I have not yet bought any holiday candy, I'm avoiding it like the plague. It's soooo good though!

Peepin' Peeper
Here's Bob (aka The Peeper) looking out our bathroom window. He's discovered he likes to have a little peek outside! But he has a very short attention span and his interest fades after a couple minutes.
About a week ago, we were both standing there watching a snow flurry when the local crow flock flew over on their daily roosting trek around 5pm.
Peeper was mezmerized! He watched them all go by, a couple hundred in total, then looked at me as if to say, "what the heck was that?!"
If only I'd had the camera handy then..... *sigh*
By the way, he's 26 this year.
Sho' nuff.

Hike to Alum Cave Bluff
On November 25, we hiked up to Alum Cave Bluff in the Smokies. It isn't really a cave, it is actually a large rock overhang that towers over the trail. Alum, saltpeter, and other minerals were mined here before and during the Civil War. You can smell the sulfur in the air.
This was as close as we tried to get today. In the bottom center of this photo is the trail, which was like a sheet of glass. Other folks were slowing making their way through, going up to or down from LeConte Lodge.
They say icicles hanging from the Bluff can get as large as a human being!
Check out these icicles, what they lack in size they make up for in quantity - they were everywhere. The section of trail just before the Bluff was very slick and pretty difficult to traverse. Too bad I couldn't get a photo of the cable handrail bolted to the rock face, it was completely coated with inches of ice and was hard to hang onto.
The trail near Inspiration Point. Amazing views here, well worth the hike, and unquestionably inspirational.

The Walker Sisters Place
We hiked out to the Walker Sisters Place in Little Greenbrier on Dec.21. It was a beautiful blustery day, with snow dusted across the tops of nearby ridges.
The cabin construction began around 1850, and sections were added later as the family size increased. Five of the family's seven sisters lived together in this cabin until 1964, when the last sister passed away.
The barn is a small but very interesting structure with pieces of tools still hanging about.
The springhouse, located just next to the main house, was a handy place to keep their food cold year round.
A window in the main house. Form and function meet in the shutters - horseshoes make picturesque and sturdy hinges.

Blog avoidance
Apparently, blogging isn't easy for me.
It isn't that I don't have things to say, because I definitely do.
I guess I just have trouble committing it to paper (whether real or virtual). It feels weird to see my thoughts or ideas written out.... and, kinda like hearing my voice on an answering machine, rather horrifying to boot. Overly critical, much? :-)
So I've just eliminated some of my previous blog posts that felt lame, and I will be adding new ones. Exciting, brilliant, dynamic posts.... brimming with insight and wisdom.
I will.
Dammit, yes I will.
Or maybe just more of my mental lint....
