Hearts All Around - Valentine's Day 2014 Edition

It's that time of year again!  Love is in the air and "hearts" are all around.









This has been a long, cold winter and snow is on the ground, so of course we have a snow heart.
Brrrrrrrrrrr

I'm kinda not feeling the snow love anymore though, ready for Spring at the moment.

While hiking along Chestnut Top Trail in Great Smoky Mtns Nat'l Park, I noticed this natural heart.  It is part of a tree chainsawed off the trail from the "night of the tornadoes" we had a while back that did major damage in this area.

It's quite perfect!

S gave me a beautiful bouquet of mixed roses for our anniversary/Valentine's Day - the green ones are so ruffly and unique.

And I think this delicate pink one has a somewhat heart-shaped petal formation.

Hearts All Around

Happy Valentine's Day!
As I try to do each year, here are a few photos I have taken wherein I've noticed heart-like shapes occurring around me - some in the mountains while we're hiking, some in the yard at home..... enjoy!

While hiking along the Little Pigeon River in the Smoky Mtns this week, we passed this fascinating sight - one tree that separates into two trunks but one seems to reach over and kiss the other (who literally seems to love it!) and then they separate again going upward.
Cool :-)

Camellia petals from the bush in our front garden.  The photo was taken on a warm day this December, and I was surprised to see a lone honey bee buzzing among the flowers.

Another hole-in-the-tree heart, this one was found in the woods behind a barn along the Roaring Fork in the Smokies on New Year's Eve 2012.

Also on that same New Year's Eve hike, I noticed this perfectly heart-shaped lichen growing on a tree.

Valentine Series: Hearts All Around - Part 1

In honor of Valentine's Day rapidly approaching, I thought I'd share some of the 'hearts' I've been discovering around me lately. I see them in the most unexpected places!
First installment:

Today a strong line of storms came through town. In addition to damaging winds, monsoon-like rains, and a gorgeous rainbow, the storm brought this:
A heart-shaped raindrop on the bathroom window.... lovely!

Love is in the air

I'm starting to feel all Valentine-y, with fair enough reason - our wedding anniversary is just before VDay! The mushy love has translated into my work and I've been inspired to make a handful of heart-y items for my Etsy shops lately.

I have not yet bought any holiday candy, I'm avoiding it like the plague. It's soooo good though!
